A sweetheart neckline, strapless gown, or off-the-shoulder style leaves the décolletage and collarbone open.

It gives a necklace the perfect room to sit.

A pendant that echoes the sweetheart’s curve looks considered rather than accidental, and a delicate chain sitting just above the neckline adds a little sparkle without covering the beautiful line of the bodice.

One-shoulder and asymmetrical necklines carry jewellery well too.

Though a single statement earring or an interesting bracelet on the bare arm can work just as hard as a statement necklace here, since the asymmetry of the dress already draws the eye.

High and covered necklines

Neither is a strict rule, and mixing metals is entirely normal in modern bridal styling if that’s what you’re drawn to.

Pearls remain one of the most timeless choices for a wedding day, freshwater pearls especially. They carry a quiet sophistication that suits almost every neckline without ever looking like an afterthought.

A simple strand or pearl drop earrings both read as timeless elegance rather than a fleeting trend, and pearls are also a lovely way to build in a “something borrowed” moment if a family piece is part of your day.

Whatever you choose, trust the finishing touch approach. A gown with plenty of beading or lace already has plenty going on, and simple jewellery on top lets that detail shine.

Styling with your veil

A veil changes the picture too, particularly for necklines that already carry detail.

A cathedral or blusher veil can sit close to a necklace at the back of the neck, so it’s worth trying both together rather than deciding on jewellery in isolation.

A busy veil edge, heavy lace or beading along the hem, often means simpler jewellery lets the veil have its moment.

Does your jewellery need to match your rings?

Loosely coordinating metal tones between your jewellery and your engagement ring or wedding band gives a polished, considered look, but it doesn’t need to match exactly.
