Essense of Australia Wedding Dresses
Essense of Australia is built on romantic, classically bridal design with construction you notice the moment you put one of their gowns on.
The brand was founded in Perth, Western Australia in 1992 by Martine and Wayne Harris, and the design team draws on European and New York fashion while keeping the brand’s Australian roots in the softness and romance of every gown.
We carry Essense of Australia at Bijoux Bridal in Hamilton, including the EveryBody/EveryBride collection for sizes 18 to 34.

What stands out first with Essense of Australia is the lacework. Whether it’s fine Chantilly lace with soft eyelash edges or bolder 3D floral applique that sits raised off the fabric, the detail is more layered and intricate than what you’ll find from most designers at a similar level.
The design team, led by Chief Creative Officer Martine Harris, pairs each lace with fabrics chosen specifically for the silhouette: structured mikado and satin for gowns that need to hold their shape, flowing tulle and organza for volume and movement, and stretch crepe or chiffon for styles that follow the body closely.
The corsetry through the bodice gives Essense of Australia gowns a level of support and structure that holds from morning until the last dance, and several current styles take this further with visible boning through sheer panels for a modern corset-inspired look.
Swarovski crystals, diamantes, and hand-sewn beading appear across the range, and the embellishment has a texture and depth that photos don’t fully capture.
Essense of Australia also offer customisation within the brand, including colour options, lining choices, and a choice of lace-up or zip-up back on selected styles.
Styles and collections
Essense of Australia covers every major silhouette, with A-line gowns that consistently flatter a wide range of figures and ballgowns that pair structured bodices with full tulle or organza skirts for a traditional bridal entrance.
Their fit-and-flare shapes follow the body through the torso and hip before opening at the knee, while the mermaid and sheath options keep things close and clean with lace or beading carrying the design.
The 2026 collections bring a combination of romance and drama, with 3D floral lace appearing across several new styles and beading work that has a shimmering, textural quality you notice when the dress catches the light.
Detachable elements like sleeves and overskirts let you change your look between ceremony and reception. If you’re drawn to detailed wedding dresses, the current Essense of Australia lacework and applique is worth seeing on the rail because photos don’t capture the layered, dimensional quality of the handwork.
EveryBody/EveryBride
Essense of Australia’s EveryBody/EveryBride collection covers sizes 18 to 36. Every gown is designed for curvier figures from the start, with boning, seaming, and the placement of lace and detailing all positioned to flatter and support rather than simply scaled up from a smaller pattern.
The same designs from the standard range are available in EveryBody/EveryBride at no extra cost, and we carry sample gowns in these sizes at Bijoux so you can try them on during your appointment.
How Essense of Australia dresses fit
Essense of Australia dresses run true to bridal sizing, and the structured corsetry through the bodice gives them a shape that holds from ceremony through to the reception without shifting or losing its line. We carry a wide range of sample sizes, and our stylists are experts at clipping and pinning so you can see what any style will look like in your size.
Once your dress arrives, our independent seamstress handles alterations. They work with Essense of Australia gowns regularly and know the construction, so whether you need a neckline adjusted, a hem taken up, or straps added, they’ll know exactly how the dress is put together.
Part of the Essense Designs family
Essense of Australia sits within the Essense Designs portfolio, a family-owned company founded by Martine and Wayne Harris in 1992. Stella York, which we also stock at Bijoux, is the more playful, trend-driven sister brand with bolder details like oversized bows and statement sleeves, while Essense of Australia is the romantic, classically bridal label with finer lacework and more intricate embellishment.
The portfolio also includes the higher-end Martina Liana line. The construction standards and sizing carry across all the labels, so if you love how an Essense of Australia gown fits, our stylists can pull from Stella York too and you’ll find that same build quality with a different design personality.
