Krisell's journey to finding her perfect wedding dress at bijoux

For Krisell MacDonald-Gillies, the journey to her dream wedding dress was not without its hurdles. As a plus-size bride, Krisell encountered a reality that many brides face: the gap between the promise of inclusivity in bridal shops and the actual experience.
A disheartening start
Krisell’s first visit to a bridal store was a deflating experience. The selection was minimal, and the options did not reflect the variety and beauty that Krisell envisioned for her big day. Recalling her experience there, Krisell says, “There was just one issue and that was that their dresses did not cater for plus sized girls, or even mid sized… I found this so deeply upsetting and tried so hard not to let it put me off.” Feeling discouraged, Krisell wondered if she would ever find a dress that made her feel like the beautiful bride she is.

Everything changed when Krisell walked into Bijoux Bridal. From the moment she stepped into our store, she felt the difference. The welcoming atmosphere and the genuine care from our team reassured her that she was in the right place. “After grabbing some lunch with my mum and friends it was onto Hamilton to the famous Bijoux and my goodness what a difference. My nerves and previous experience was soon forgotten the moment I stepped into the store and was greeted by the lovely Lynn. She made my experience so special after hearing of my terrible morning.”

Krisell’s experience at Bijoux was a stark contrast to her previous encounter. She recalls, “There was a bit of relief during the appointment when all the dresses either fit me or were too big, Bijoux deserves extra praise for their incredible inclusive sizing range. This meant a lot to me and my mum as she saw how disheartened I was in the first shop we went to. I left feeling confident and knowing I was going to look and feel my best on my wedding day (which may I add, I really flippen did!)“

Describing finding her dream wedding dress at Bijoux, Krisell says, “It was a whirlwind experience but I know that I was grinning like a Cheshire cat from the minute I walked into the shop until long after I left! My favourite memory is having my Instagram moment on the bot with my mum and girls! And of course the very first moment I tried on THE dress of my dreams.” This is the experience we strive to create for every bride at Bijoux.
